As a student member of the American Psychological association I am obligated to follow it's Code of Ethics as a general rule. In the event of a more specialized situation where I need additional guidance I look to the Code of Ethics of the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors, and Therapists and the Code of Ethics for the National Guild of Hypnotists.

As a further "best practices" model I also maintain close relationships with my supervisors, former instructors, and professional peers. In the event of an ethical dilemma or question, a supportive professional network is the most important part of any therapists "decision process" as it enables mutiple perspectives, and thus multiple opportunities for a flaw in reasoning to be uncovered.
